March 2025 – Spring greetings from the Andros cats

Even though this winter on Andros wasn’t as harsh as some others in previous years, the weather often showed this side of itself:

But the days with views like this are becoming more frequent again:

Things are looking up, and our Andros cats are enjoying the sunny days of the approaching spring—before the high summer again takes hold of everything with its blazing grip. Activity increases, and so does appetite.
Merle asks: “When’s breakfast finally coming?”

“There you go, that’s better.”

The other table guests at our feeding station 1 don’t need much convincing either:

Drops—last seen in June 2023 after his neutering!

Here again are Salem and Kalinero.

Little bear Lars-Ole somehow doesn’t quite fit the typical image one has of southern strays:

However, there are also other sturdily built tomcats around, such as Fitz and Hamish at Fitz’s side.

A few latecomers also make their way to the table:

Kirian would rather be carried to the food.

Akrisios also comes from this feeding station, but he was taken in by our friend A. because he needed an antibiotic injection. He’s being nursed back to health, too, as he’s quite a frail little guy.

At other local spots, familiar faces appear—like Miss Meier, Amelie, and Tigre …

… as well as Vina, who was only neutered this past summer. In the second photo, you can see her again with Amelie.

Up on the step in the background, you can see the tabby Manolis.

At the home of a local woman we met during our trip last summer, we caught Lysander, Tinka, and climbing expert Felice on camera.

Many cats also gather at the feeding station at our friend A.’s house (2), especially when she returns from Athens to Andros for a while. On such occasions, Nyota also spends her vacation on Andros—she lived here for many years but has been a happy indoor cat in Athens since last summer.

Otherwise, many familiar faces can be seen here!

There’s also a new arrival to report—a little black-and-white cat affectionately called “Baby Parlapipa” by our Greek friends—shown here with Tiffy.

Before we head over to our friend S., who lives not far from here, here are a few group shots of this peaceful crew:

From the front left: Liane, Gin, Gella, and Scotty.

From the left: Gin, Gella, and Liane.

Baby Parlapipa, Gin and Gella.

This time, we only have two photos from S.’s large cat group. But to keep you from just scrolling past them quickly, we’ve turned them into hidden-object puzzles. As always, you’ll find the solution in the second image.

In this one, you’ll need to find: Athina, Data, Hektor, Koko, Leiadera, Liane, Lisa, Marios, Nikita, Tebetan, Scotty, and Yuki.

Faithful readers who were paying attention won’t be surprised to see Liane, Scotty, and Data here—they were just pictured at our friend A.’s house (2). But as we know, they also like to visit S. to get some extra food.

We’re of course very happy that Marios is doing so well again. You might remember he was sent to the vet in Athens with a suspected broken leg. It turned out he had likely injured a nerve and had to stay there for several days until he could properly use his leg again.

In the second photo, alongside Athina, Koko, Leiadera, Liane, Lisa, Marios, Nikita, Tebetan, and Yuki, you can also spot Kaskader and Omorfoula.

Omorfoula? If that name doesn’t ring a bell at first, don’t worry—it’s not your memory. Omorfoula is S.’s house cat, who until now has only ever left the apartment to briefly step outside and check the weather. But mingling with the other cats? That was always beneath her dignity. Perhaps age is softening her a little?

On our way to the other side of the island, we stop by A.’s place, in whose village Mous lives—a cat we hadn’t seen since her spaying four (!) years ago, in March 2021. That makes her the current top candidate for our regularly awarded “Long Time No See” trophy. Sadly, she had to see the vet recently due to a cancerous spot on the tip of her left ear.

We’re already expected on the other side of the island, too—this time by a small group with Mausi on the left and Drama on the right of the photo. By the way, the last time we saw Mausi was over three years ago—in February 2022!

Here’s a lovely solo photo of Drama:

Another small group includes Fava in the foreground and the white-and-red Freyja in the background.

Also living in these villages are Lady Katzelot, Al-Kutba, and Bubbles…

…as well as another group where you get to guess again—who are Eleni, Ginger, Thetis, and Yanna?

Ginger and Eleni would also like a moment to shine with solo portraits.

Tigris also lives in this group.

Next up, we visit Wendy—unseen since December 2023…

…Mila, also hidden for just as long…

…Mischou, likewise off the radar since December 2023…

…Ping (on the left), has not photographed since her spaying in December 2023…

… Sura, …

…Althea, also unseen since her December 2023 spaying…

…and little fridge-cat Cara with her black friend Erna.

On our drive, we passed the hotel where the teacher stayed last autumn—the one who invited Jörg to give a talk at her school (we reported on it in the post “From Andros to Next Door”). She took care of the cats there at the time and met these two: Marisini and Adele.

One last group photo to test your memory: who can spot Angie, Marpe, Schmuddelkatz, and Zelda? Angie hadn’t been seen since January 2023, Marpe and Schmuddelkatz since December 2023, and Zelda since her spaying in October 2023.

But now it’s time to say goodbye—for now.

Alina can hardly believe it: “What? You’re leaving already?”

Yes, dear Andros cats, but we’ll see each other again. In the next report—or maybe on the next trip!

Let our Greek friends take good care of you. And if anyone feels like helping to keep the food supply going, you’re welcome to contribute— either through a Futterteller subscription on our donation page
